June 25th 2017 Project Update
Cab 17 Hungerford X and Cab 18 South Gorley are going to be the first two of our 5 cabinets that will be declared available to the network, i.e. open for business. This should be in the first two weeks of July.
If you are not sure whether your property is within the catchment of these two cabinets, please go to the MAP - ALL SCHEMES drop down and select Map 2 for Hungerford X and Map 3 for South Gorley.
Once Openreach declare a cabinet “available to the network” it usually takes up to 7 days before all CPs are notified and can accept orders - and it will be through your chosen CP that you will receive the new faster service (remember you will need a new modem – please see the notes circulated previously). We will be watching developments closely and as soon as we know the live dates we will be emailing all those residents affected with an update. We will also post information on this page.
Cab 19 Frogham Hill (Map 4) and Cab 20 Frogham X (Map 5). It seems as if anything that could go wrong on these two cabinets has. Problems with routing the fibre through Fordingbridge were eventually resolved but then further severe blockages in the existing route from Fordingbridge were discovered which were likely to add 4 months to the project.
Fortunately a new fibre route has been surveyed, picking up the fibre connection from Hern Lane and running along Hyde Lane until it reaches Cab 19. We very much hope that this route will be adopted as it is the quickest and easiest solution now available. It will require 28 days notice and approximately 3 days work on the ground thereafter to implement. Once this fibre path is installed, 19 & 20 should become available to the network within a few days, as all other required elements are in place. Reassuringly Natural England and the Verderers have agreed to this option.
This is a sickening delay - and you may rightly ask why these blockages were not identified much, much sooner - but we are where we are and must contain ourselves in patience. You may be sure, however, that we are very much ‘on the case’.
Cab 21 Blissford Hill (Map 6) The new cabinet location (avoiding the water main) is agreed, the survey work is done and the estimates are issued. The fibre pathway is confirmed. Morrisons are now under pressure to confirm the earliest possible dates for erecting the Cabinet and getting SSE to provide power. We hope to have more specific news by 30th June.
Cab PCP002 North Gorley (Map 1) This is the cabinet that is being completed under the HCC/BDUK programme. The new cabinet is in place. Power has been slightly delayed as extra work was needed at both ends after the telephone box was removed by others (illegally). Fibre was connected on Friday and Morrisons are under pressure to complete connection and copper work at the cabinet. As soon as we know the “available to network” date for this cabinet we will post information on this website and by email.
